We are transforming the healthcare experience by harnessing the power of AI to deliver simpler, more effective solutions for members, advocates, and brokers. The Lead Product Manager, AI Value Realization & Disruptive Innovation is a strategic, data-driven leader who serves as the enterprise’s “opportunity scout” and value architect—using advanced analytics, market intelligence, and business acumen to surface and size the next wave of high-impact AI investments.
In this role, you are the architect of value for disruptive AI. You partner with product leaders across portfolios to uncover, validate, and prioritize breakthrough opportunities, leveraging enterprise data—operational metrics, member and advocate feedback, financial performance, and market trends—to identify where AI can deliver measurable outcomes. Your work shapes not only what we build, but why we build it, ensuring every initiative is grounded in a compelling, defensible value story.
You lead the development of robust value frameworks and benefit realization models, authoring actionable, evidence-based cost-benefit analyses (CBAs) and investment cases that withstand executive and financial scrutiny. Your analyses connect technical feasibility, operational impact, member experience, and financial return—empowering leaders to make confident, data-driven decisions about where to invest and how to measure success.
Accountability is central to this role. You design and publish transparent dashboards, track KPIs and OKRs, and conduct post-launch analyses to ensure every AI initiative delivers on its promise. You drive the decommissioning of legacy tools, quantify savings and reinvestment opportunities, and ensure capital is concentrated on the most accretive solutions.
Collaboration is at the heart of your impact. You work hand-in-hand with Product, Delivery, UX, Data Science, and Engineering teams to translate disruptive opportunities into actionable roadmaps and successful launches. You coach teams on value storytelling, helping them articulate the “why” behind their initiatives and connect technical decisions to frontline and member impact.
You are also a strategic advisor to senior leadership, providing clear, actionable recommendations that shape the enterprise AI portfolio. Your ability to synthesize complex data into persuasive narratives ensures that innovation is always aligned with business priorities and member needs. You anticipate market shifts, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies, ensuring our company’s AI investments remain future-ready and resilient.
In a fast-moving environment, your ability to balance analytical rigor with practical judgment is essential. You bring operational empathy to every analysis, ensuring recommendations are grounded in the realities of care delivery and member needs. Your leadership helps UnitedHealthcare stay ahead of industry disruption, accelerate time-to-value, and deliver intelligent, personalized care experiences that make a measurable difference for our members and the enterprise.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Use enterprise data to discover and size disruptive AI opportunities; quantify addressable value, feasibility, risk, and time-to-value
• Author rigorous, decision-grade cost-benefit analyses (CBAs) and investment memoranda; recommend stage-gated funding and clear “go/hold” criteria
• Define OKRs/KPIs and benefit realization logic; build transparent dashboards linking investment to outcomes
• Partner with Product, Delivery, UX, Data Science, and Engineering to turn opportunities into test-first pilots; set guardrails for safety, privacy, and compliance
• Lead post-production monitoring, root-cause analysis, and optimization backlogs; document lessons learned and value deltas against CBAs
• Identify redundant tools and legacy workflows; quantify decommission savings and reinvestment opportunities
• Coach product leaders to articulate the “why” behind initiatives; craft concise, executive-ready narratives and visuals
Measures of Success:
• Percentage of opportunities funded based on your CBAs; audit-ready documentation of assumptions and value logic
• Realized outcomes vs. approved business cases (AHT, containment, NPS, medical cost, decommission savings)
• Cycle time from opportunity identification to pilot to scale; reduction in rework and post-p
